Information in a nutshell

Renaissance mansion in Markušovce was commissioned in 1643 by František Máriássy and today it is one of the most beautiful and most visited landmarks in Spiš. The mansion in Markušovce is an exterior exposition of the Spiš Museum in Spišská Nová Ves. Originally, it served as a fortress, however, it changed its form in the second half of the 18th century, when it was rebuilt to s representative rococo-style noble residence. It is surrounded by a French park with three-level terraces and a summer-house Dardanely situated on the top level. It was built at the end of the 18th based on order of Earl Wolfgang Máriássy on the occasion of expected arrival of Emperor Joseph II. The notified visit of the imperial court did not eventually take place, anyway, the lovely structure in his honour still pleases the eye of all history architecture and art admirers. Since 1983, the object has hosted Exposition of keyboard musical instruments, which focuses on domestic producers. Its uniqueness is based on the fact that it is the only of its kind in Slovakia.

Project description

The implementation of the Kúria Zuzana - Experience in the Museum project takes place in the area of the manor house in Markušovce, where, in addition to the summer house, there is also a historic farm building. Opposite the manor house and the summer house, this building is in a state of disrepair. The purpose of this project is therefore the complete renovation of the entire building and the subsequent creation of facilities for the museum's professional staff and the general professional public. Other parts of the project will be the opening of historical exhibitions dedicated to the life of the aristocratic Máriássy family, the history of wood processing, the furniture industry, and, last but not least, the presentation of traditional folk culture in the Spiš region, including the minorities concerned. However, the exhibition will not end there and will acquire innovative elements. The entire exhibition, which will cover two-thirds of the building, will be enriched with elements of augmented reality and other modern technologies. The project will also include the organization of various events, workshops, and creative training.
